In the mid 1980's, Apple had the majority marketshare of blind users.
Everybody that I knew had an Apple or Mac, and back then, blind people
could get technical support for their speech synthesizers, for there
were a number of them that could be used with the early Macs. I had an
Apple 2GS, and used an Echo 2 synthesizer with mine. And when I had
considered buying a dot matrix printer, with the program that turned my
printer into a braille embosser, the techs at Apple answered my
