And let's not lose fact of the obvious, Safari does need quite allot of work for the user who requires assistive technology such as VoiceOver to work with it, you have no idea where anchors are, no ideas where tables begin and end etc. Now that may not be important to some people but if you want to get to grips with the layout of some web pages? Well its damn important and this is where I'm afraid to say that the Windows Screen Readers have an edge so James is perfectly justified in my book for making some of his comments.

Yes James, Dane is right about what he said, and in fact, i learned something from you that i did not know before it was a certain key combination. So you do contribute to this list. But of course if you leave it will be your decision, and no-one on this list has forced you to make it.

A very constructive message here as well I feel.
As I'm sure I've stated before on this list, I've been without a Windows PC for about 6 months now and I've had to rely on first my Ibook and now my Imac for web browsing. Some time ago, I was having trouble browsing the web but this list came to my aid and gave me a few things to try. Now? Well, I'm not saying that every page I go to or every site I go to reads perfectly but I can get what I need and do what I need to do from the net at the moment, I don't have any serious issues that need addressing as far as web accessability goes with Safari is concerned, ok annoyances or slight improvements may be what I feel have to be made or fixed but with feedback to Apple, those things may be addressed in time. I think the people on this list James have been extremely helpful not just to you bot I've found the discussion informative and as they say, "You learn something every day".

Hi James and those reading,

You expressed that you thought we were being unfair to you and your views when responding to the issues you have with web browsing on the Mac. I believe you may be being a little too defensive on that score. I think we were all trying to help you get more out of it. No one here will say it is a perfect, flawless experience, but it isn't in the dire state you are painting it. Either extreme would do a disservice to our cause, and neither is accurate.

Many of us have tried and successfully navigated the pages you linked to without much difficulty. We're only trying to help you. You seem quite convinced that unless it works like your Windows screen reader, it isn't any good. Personally, I like getting a more visually accurate layout of a web site, but that's a matter of what one is accustomed to and prefers. It doesn't mean that there is anything inherently worthless about how VO presents web content.

I certainly don't believe any of us meant any offense to you. We're here to help and guide you. If people have trouble with something on the Mac, it is natural for us to want to assist them. If you don't want that assistence, then that's OK too. You can always take or leave it, and it may benefit someone else instead.

You accused us of biase, and saying that VO is wonderful without acknowledging its flaws. No one here has done that, and there are plenty of things I'd like to see improved upon in VO. I think you are, perhaps, a little biased in believing that VO is so unusable. Clearly, a great many of us have had tremendous success with it.
