Do you think it is safe to assume that if I was to do a fresh erase/install of Leopard, that I could copy over my address book without fear of corruption, or loss of data?

When you get Leopard, you should back up all your data and the disk images of all the applications that don't come with the OS to an external hard drive, then do an Erase and Install and use the Migration Assistant to copy your data onto the new system. In this way, you shouldn't lose anything from your Address Book or Mail or anything else.

Cheers,

Anne
