I want to record with my Mac

Greetings, can anyone recommend an accessible Mac recording program?   
Basically, I'm looking to record in mp3 format.  Ideally, I could also  
perform some basic editing on the files, but I'd be happy if I could  
just record.  So far, I've been doing this on my PC, but would love to  
migrate more over to the Mac.  One more thing, on the PC, there's  
generally an option called wav, or stereo mix which records the  
computer's sounds in addition to the mic -- can I do this on the Mac?   
It'd sure come in handy for making tutorials and that sort of thing.
