Selecting Text

Listers I want to know in places on the computer like the internet,  
help files and even folders once they are highlighted, how can I  
select this text? For example in Notes I typed a letter and wanted to  
go back and change it, but I couldn't figure out how to select just  
one letter for deletion. I tried interacting with the text, stop  
interacting with the text, VO left and right and just arrowing right  
and left. Nothing worked. Is it me oris  all system text not available  
for selection and editing?
