I can right click on it in the doc. and bring up a list of contacts
and this would normally be fine however it doesn't allow me to only
see the online contacts. This is even if the view is set to online
only. I didn't see it in the menu or preferances.

shows you contacts in your address book. I can't remember off the
top of my head where you change that, probably in preferences
