I think it does matter. There is no way for the msn gateway to retrieve names from the msn service. Now, if he had an address book with email addresses along with the names on that computer then the name would show up every time the server saw the email address.

Was your friend using Ichat or the msn software? Go to status.jabber.org and update your profile and see what happens.

I'm currently using a public server yes.

Didn't have much luck with the private one so I asked Tim to set it up; now I wonder how to change my settings on the account.

No, that doesn't work, ugg. Also to my MSN contacts Joshuatubbs1 is displayed, and I don't want that.

Joshua,

If you go to the view menu from the buddy list window, in there you'll find a submenu called buddy names. Currently it sounds to me like display by handle will be selected. If you change that to either display full or short names (i can't tell the difference between those two), you should start seeing what you're asking for.

Hope that helps
Scott

Subject: Contact names in IChat

Hi all,

I am just wondering where I can change my contacts display names, because it's really frustrating me that it's being displayed by email. The thing is, for a friend of mine, he didn't have to change his names manually. He can also see if people change there MSN nickname. The reason I wanna change it to this if I can is that ACB Radio Interactive puts this stuff in there name, like what DJ is on, and if I change it manually it'll just be ACBRI or something boring like that.

So just wondering if I can get the names from the MSN service and it automatticly displays them the way it should?

Thanks.
