well, you have to shut down the app.  to uninstall it, you should just be 
able to throw it in the trash.  empty the trash.  keep the dmg and reinstall 
it.

No, I do not think that I had ejected it first. I think I copied the
folder first into the Applications folder and jonly afterwards had I
ejected it.

If the situation persists, how do I uninstall Skpe and reinstall it
again? That might be the bist bet. What do you reckon, David?
