Quick Time Player

Listers does Quick Time Player recognize AVI and MP4 movies? The  
reason I ask is because I can't play these formats now for some  
reason. It shows the movie title and when I press play nothing  
happens. I can open the same movies in VLC and everything works fine.  
What do I need to do to enable Quick Time Player to see and play these  
types of movie formats?
