Preview is your best option, but if that doesn't work, you can always
try saving the file using the Adobe Reader. If nothing else, drop
Adobe a note and let them know their reader isn't working for you.

Does anyone on the list use Acrobat Reader 8 for Mac? I've just
downloaded it and have been struggling with it although it promises
to work with assistive technology all right. It seems to configure
itself for the assistive technology but I am still not able to read
pdf documents with it. I used to use Acrobat a lot under Windows
especially that it has a facility for saving pdf documens in text
format which Preview does not seem to hve. It's also useful when it
comes to reading pdf docs on the web.
