Hi,
For those interested in Beta testing when we begin developing Mac games
here is a summary of our Beta testing polacy. We actually have switched
to this new polacy last month, and have had very very good responce and
success with it for Montezuma's Return for Windows.
As of early December 2007 for our commercial titles what we do is
release a demonstration version of the product which everyone may freely
demo and test. Those who want the complete game content, test the entire
product, etc we will offer a pre-order button on our shopping cart which
allows the beta tester to purchase the game while it is still in testing
and development. They will be sent a product key by email, and that
product key will be valid for all the betas, and all beta testers will
be given a free upgrade to 1.0 upon release. We have found this method
of beta testing is very successful. Those who pay for the software tend
to be more interested in finding bugs, making suggestions, and
constructive input about the title than those users who are just given a
free copy to play around with. Also those early funds can be used to buy
new sounds, music, or any costs required to get the title to market.
Finally, for the potential beta testers it isn't restricted to 5 or 6
people. Anyone who wants to can pay to test the game, and usually save
money on the game in the process.
Cheers.
