Multi-track recording on mac

Hi friends,

I'm about to buy a bac book pro for studio work.  It's not time or 
cost sensative or anything, I'm just teaching myself with a group of 
friends of mine that gets together and jams.

So on the windows platform I had sonar producer.  Sonar would let me 
open up a project.  I had an 8 track digital mixer.  So, I'd set up a 
four track wave project and then assign each sonar track to a pare of 
stereo chanels on my mixer.  I could then EQ evrything on my mixer 
and hit record and we could all play.  It would record each 
instrument on it's own track and we could mutilate it any way we want.

So now I'm moving over to mac, and I need to know, is there a program 
that does this?  What is it called?  how much does it cost? How 
accessible is it?
