For what it's worth, I've also sent this issue along to Apple, and just to add a bit to what Greg said, Safari find actually does work for things not on the screen, however, once they're located, VO won't track the cursors properly to move to the new cursor position, so VO find won't find text unless it's visible on the screen, but safari will, but then VO won't track Safari's find function. Go figure!

As I said though, I have pointed all this out to Apple as well, so I do hope we'll see some action on it ASAP.

Simon, thanks very much for your comments. I totally agree with you and I brought that up with Apple as well, saying that I feel it's imperative that developers realize that using VO to navigate an application really does mean absolutely relying on it to access that app, and not just seeing if it will announce something under the mouse pointer. <smile>

And, I'm very sure that they are completely aware of this sort of thing, so again, I do hope we will see some improvements very soon...

Have a nice day / evening and chat with ya soon!...

Smiles,

Cara :)

Greg, This is a helpful observation as many people do not realize this is the case. And yet, the ability to look for a text you might suspect is there is absolutely crucial. It is also crucial to be absolutely sure that the text string you are looking for is not on the page if you haven't got any sight. I cannot emphasize strongly enough the fact that being blind means being blind. You can only 'See' what you can find by other than sight measures. I thank you Greg, for bringing it up andmaking it clearer to people who should know better. With best wishes

The issue I have with VoiceOVer find is that the text to be found must be visually on the page before it will work. Should you be attempting to find a word far down on a long webpage VoiceOVer find will fail. A blind person would have no idea if the word they were looking for was visually on the page or not. This limits the usefulness of VoiceOver find.
