Just for those who are interested, after doing a lot of research
today and discovering from the Apple support forums that I was far
from the only person experiencing problems accessing NAS drives, it
seems the OS 105.2 update fixed the issues. I tinkered with the drive
setting to no avail, but after installing the OS update, the drive
comes up as expected and I can read and write to it.
