I'm guessing here, but could you have switched your open dialog file
mode from list to column view?
Also, some applications filter the list and display only types it
thinks it can open. Often there's a show all file types addition in
the dialog box.

Listers what's the problem when trying to open files from a folder
in the file browser and it doesn't open? Basically in multiple
applications the folders will display, but the files will not. I
have used these apps in the same way without this happening. What is
the work around?
