I would be willing to give your powerbook a new home and service it.
powerbook hard drives are known to fail on older models. the problem
your disk has is the cylinders and drive have worn causing the drive
to drop speed and data to fail to write correctly. therefore causing
the disk to die
its easy to fix well if you know your way round powerbooks like I do.
so if you would like a new home for it let me know. I've been after an
older powerbook for some time now and here they're hard to come across
in the UK. but being a guy who services macs as a hobby as well as a
bit of a money maker in wales I'm known for my expertise in older
systems. I do the best job going including a ful clean up etc.
my best recommendation for you is go for a new machine as you will
have more power and a life of total joy I guarantee it.
let me know what you think and have a great day friend.

Hi all,
Disc utility reports failure of my powerbook titanium hd. It still
runs the
os and I can even install the os on it in all thre ways but often,
it does
not boot and the only cure seems to be reinstalling the os. This is
a well
worn system so I don't have any regrets but am wondering if I should
replace
the hd or if It would be best just to scrap the system. I also have a
thought that I'd be willing to find it a good home if someone is in
need of
or has a desire for one. I don't see any other hardware issues with
it and
the drive would need to be replaced in any event but if you want it
and want
to replace the drive, I'll ship free. It comes with backpack, extra
battery, vga adaptor, phone cord, ethernet cable, charger all original
documentation, media and I'll throw in outspoken and enlarge but
would be
happy to keep it if I can replace the hard drive fairly simply.
I checked the Apple site and turned up nada. I will give the store
a call
later today and see what they say. Unfortunately, the apple care
plan is
long expired and I don't know if one could even be obtained.
Thoughts are welcomed.
P.S. Remember, this is not an intel system. the specs are 867ghz
processor,
1gb ram and a 30g hd. the formfactor is 15 inch display.
