Hiya,
You'll only get ubuntu to run without fusion as a dual boot, i.e. you
can only use one os at one time, and to use the other one you have to
reboot into it. You'll have to set this up, but it can be done with
boot camp. It's how I have my macbook pro set up.
I don't know about the DOS message. Never heard of that before but my
linux experience isn't extensive. Could be the wrong version of ubuntu
for your machine - you need an intel compatible one for an intel
machine, and a power pc compatible one for a power pc machine, and so
on.

Hello, When I went to try and run Ubuntu on my iMac, I got an error

Is there a component that I'm missing? I am running Fusion, too. I
understand, however, that it's not necessary to have Fusion running;
Ubuntu should be a straightforward installation, should it not?
