It's more the other way around changes in WebKit are folded into Safari. And yes things can break along the way with the nightly builds.

So when Apple comes out with a new version of Safari are we in effect getting the latest web kit build? Also doing the nightly thing, does it makes things better or does it break other things aling the way?

Downloading WebKit will have no effect on your Apple installed version of Safari or the underlying WebKit in the OS.

Aright folks,

I just downloaded the new nightly build of webkit and ran it. I got the warning about running applications from a disc image and hit the open button. A web page popped up saying, "thank you for installing the nightly build of webkit", or words to that effect. Nothing seems to have changed in safari though. How do I know I'm running the newest build of webkit? Can I check that somewhere?

Thanks,
erik burggraaf

The nightly build of WebKit, from which we get Safari has fixed the bug with selection boxes in web forms. This bug made some web form controls invisible to VoiceOVer and has been a critical issue for some time. Those affected by this may wish to download the WebKit nightly build and try it out.
