Scanning, and TV

Hi,
On Windows we have a choice of OCR software such as Kurzweil or the 
cheaper but very good Finereader and for TV I use the very accessible 
DigiTV.  What kind of apps of this kind are accessible for the MAC 
and is the OCR for example as good as its Windows competitors?
