Hmm. I do hear the fan, the problem is though it just gets utterally hot, behind it. and when I take CDs out of the drive there smoking red hot. I do hear the fan kick in, for example, when I wake it up, and then it gets really really quiet and that's pretty much the only time.

Hi Orin,

Another thought, do you never hear the fan come on? On my laptop I
can hear the fan kick in when the processor loads (and this is more
likely to happen when i hear "Safari, busy", stream a video in the
browser, load up large PDF files in the inline browser display instead
of downloading them an using Preview, etc). You might want to make
sure that the fan does turn on some time. On external hard drives one
of the sources of failure is when the power supply that drives the fans cuts out. If they're separately replaced the drives usually stay good.

Cheers,

Esther

Subject: iMac roasting normal behavier?

Hey all,

Just wondering, although my iMac is very quiet I really can't hear it, it's getting utterally hot, should it? I mean, this is a desktop, and
I keep it on, and I just don't want it to melt away. Shouldn't this
thing have a fan in it to keep it cool?
I'm currently listening to 06. Soldiers Of The Wasteland by
DragonForce on the album Sonic Firestorm and is currently Paused.
