Hi Shaun,

Just so I have this right, you use Text Shop to write Latex

install anything else? Is Latex already installed with this Text
Shop app?
Yes you use TexShop to write Latex documents. But as I think Greg
pointed out, they are text based documents with special commands
which will control the formatting.
You do not need to install anything else with the TexShop
application, but you can get add-ons if you like from across various
places on the Internet.
Feel free to contact me of list if you want to talk about this more.
Best wishes

having seen a few post regarding tabs, page numbering and other
such matters on the list of late I though I would add a few
comments here. TextEdit is a fine little program but it is not a
full scale word processor. For that something like OpenOpffice
beta 3 is a better choice. Or you could move all the way up to the
king of document processing and use TeX and/or LaTeX.
These are true document processing tools which, once learned will
produce document of unrivaled quality. TeX and LaTeX. are command
driven system well suited for the blind who will be assured of
perfect output by them. The learning curve is steep bu you will be
rewarded in the end for learning it. These programs can handle
things like footnotes, references, bibliographies and whole books
in a way that no other methods can. You can even typeset
mathematics with them.
TeXShop is the leading implementation of TeX on the Mac, it is
free and VoiceOver compatible and can be found here: http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/
