Dear Tim, Cody, Jason etc., just wanted to acknowledge your responses
to my strictures regarding mac mini. It looks that a more powerful
model will suffice seeing how expensive the Imac is.

TK: If you're hoping to use it as a Server sort of thing, I
wouldn't get another MacBook. Portable computers are not the best
idea for that sort of situation. The iMac would probably not be
obsolete quite as quick as the Mini but also is considerably more
expensive.
Cody responded: Actually there are 2 moddles of the mac mini,
the 600 one and the 800 one. The only difference is the hard
drive space and the processor. For that simple upgrade it is not
worth the 200 extra imho.
TK: You are mistaken somewhat. The $600 Mini has a smaller HD,
slower processor and only comes with a Combo Drive whereas the next
level Mini comes with the bigger HD, faster processor and a Super
Drive. The difference between the Combo Drive and the Super Drive
is the ability to burn DVDs. If you have no need to burn DVDs, then
by all means, go with the $600 model.
Cody also said: btw just as an fyi, the black macbooks are
actually better than the white ones. Supposedly they are built
more stable and they are just more reliable don't ask, but they
just are. The prices are even different, even if they have the
same hardware.
TK: I, too, am interested in where you've heard this. I've
wondered about the rationale for the extra cost, and actually have a
black one myself, but have never found any documentation that
supports this claim.
