Why not just add a bookmark for your favorite search engine?

I haven't tried this but this tutorial shows how to hack Safari to go to Yahoo or whatever:

Seems that as long as the URL string is still the same length you can change it to something else. I also found links to something called SafariStand which, among other things, lets you modify how search works

http://hetima.com/safari/stand-e.html

I also saw some mentions of AcidSearch which modifies the Safari Search with a bunch of options.

That said, I like Google so I really don't need any of this stuff. I suspect Safari would notice if your localization is, say, Germany and use google.de, but I've never tried that. What's also handy is the site: parameter so I can just google for

bill gates aol email payment site:snopes.com

to limit my search to just that site. Snopes.com is a site which tracks various chain mails and verifies their truthfulness. I was surprised how many stories actually are true. Like this one:

Speaking of Cuil, you're not missing much. All the results are ridiculous if you're used to Google, Yahoo and others. Nothing relevant comes up and it's organized in the most illogical way. I'm surprised it was hyped as much as
it has been in the past few days.

I'm not a fan of inquisitor. It is well known for having a shady

developer

who sucks at providing customer support. There was a big thing about this earlier in the year where someone discovered that there were results
provided by inquisitor that were really amazon affiliate links and

whatnot,

without marking them as such. now it does mark affiliate links, but i

still

don't really want to support this guy. google "dave watanabe", more links
than not will be complaining about his attitude.

Okay, I'm going to do it. Yikes. I get scared sometimes downloading
software that doesn't seem to be very well known!

Thanks for your comment.

Has anyone tried Inquisitor 3 ?
http://www.download.com/Inquisitor/3000-2145_4-10745009.html

In my search for information on how to change the default search
engine, I came across Inquisitor 3. One bit of information claims

"Nowadays, we depend on search engine to get information from around
the web. I myself depend very much on search engine. Currently,
Safari is using Google as its default search engine.
But here comes the issue, a setting will never satisfy the mind of several millions people surfing the web. Some of us maybe want to use Google UK as our default search engine, some maybe prefer using
Yahoo!
With Inquisitor 3 installed on your Safari, you will be able to
change your Safari default search engine easily.
Here are the steps you need to do :
Download Inquisitor and follow the installation instruction
After you've finished installing Inquisitor, relaunch your Safari
for the change to take effect
Go to Safari ▸ Preferences
Click on Search section to modify settings for Inquisitor
In the last option box, you should be able to choose your default
search engine"

So now I'm just wondering if anyone has actually tried this, and how
they like it! And how vo friendly is this application?

I guess I can be brave and try it first, if no one else has.
