As for replacements should the need ever arise, there is, of course, the aforementioned Book Courier, but the most popular option currently is Humanware's Victor Reader Stream. Greg on this list has even written Mac software for this.
For those who don't know, the Road Runner is the immediate predecessor
(designed by the same people under a different company name) to the
Book Courier. In fact, it even uses the same Doubletalk speech chip.
Unlike the Book Courier, however, the Road Runner only groks plain
text, and, moreover, has only its own transfer software written for it.
