Subject: Getting a Headset to Work with My Mac

Ok, in all the rush about headsets, Mom actually found an old one that
I didn't even know existed. I don't even know if it's Mac compatible.
When I plugged the one cord into the headphone jack it worked fine,
but when I plugged the microphone cord into the microphone jack it
kept recording with the internal microphone. So I switched it to
line-in and now I'm getting no sound at all when I play back the
recording. I know I can just use a y adaptor and do it that way but
I've heard it's not a good idea to leave a y adaptor in the machine
for too long. So is there a proper way to get it to recognise an
external microphone?

Thanks,
Tiffanitsa
