Adium and iChat with VO help?

I have a quick question about Adium and ichat with VO. I will be  
chatting with someone and I use the VO keys plus down arrow to  
interact with the message  window. When its reading the message and  
that person sends another message while VO is still reading the last  
one it won't go to the new message. that ding sound happens instead  
that tells you that your at the end of the document. Does anyone know  
how to get VO to read the new messages?
