I thought the Mac Minis had digital optical output so your can play a
5.1 encoded DVD into your surround sound system with just the right
cable. I don't know if they all have it but current models actually have
a light emitter in the mini headphone jack. You would probably need a
MiniOptical digital optical cable which is about $8 on newegg. Anyone
try this? Apple article on connecting 2006 and later Mac Minis to a TV

Hey David. I hoe things are well with you.
As for hte Griffin Firewave, yes, it can handle 5.1 speakers. It will
also have an extra fireport on it, so that you can have a fireport,
should you need it.
Best of luck.

Hi Mate,
Thanks for your suggestion. Can you run 5.1 speakers from this sound
card?
Thanks in advance,

Mac Mini.
Hey there, how are you doing?
I heard a lot of good thigns about the Griffin Firewave. It is an
external solution that runs via a firewire port.
I just recently puchased mine, for about 20 dollars at the official
griffin technology site. It was on sale, originally priced at 100
dollars.
Just google it, and you should find it right away.
Hope this helps.

Hi All,
Can anyone recommend an external sound card for my Mac Mini? It
doesn't
matter if it has firewire on it as well as then I could use it with
my Mac
Pro as well. Thanks in advance,
