Hi,
The web page for the sound pref pane to adjust startup sound volume
does warn you to back up your important data before trying to install
this. It also advises that if your Mac does not start up normally
after installing the software you should boot into safe mode and
uninstall the software. Just to let people know beforehand that when
you boot into safe mode, you won't hear VoiceOver speak, so you'd have
to get sighted help to do the uninstall. Safe boot mode disables
audio and video inputs and outputs, and can also disable your AirPort
wireless connection. It's a trouble-shooting solution, and sometimes
getting your machine to reboot in safe mode (which takes much longer
than a normal reboot, since safe boot also forces your machine to run
a directory check of your startup volume), and then simply rebooting
normally can fix problems. But if you have to uninstall the software
under safe mode -- i.e., do more than try to do a reboot in this mode,
and then reboot your machine again normally as soon as it has come up
in safe mode -- you will need sighted help.
Just my thoughts.
Cheers,
Esther

it really messed up my mac. I had to uninstall it and then set the

Hi,
Jacob,
Thanks so much Jacob,
I will forward this link to my supervisor at the provincial
organazation that handles technology for students. I think this may be
important for classroom use.
Thanks for listening,
Alex,

Have a look at the startup sound pref pain. This is a system
preference pain that allows you to adjust the volume of the startup
sound and/or mute it. It can be found at:

Alex, will Google, but care to elaborate? I'd like the ability to
turn the chime off. In fact, I run my mac with basically no sound
other than VO's speech.
Thanks so much and have a lovely day!…
Smiles,
Cara :)

Hi,
There is a hack to get rid of it, but I find it to be a good audio
indicator.
Thanks for listening,

Hi list,
Is there away that we can change the iMac's chime indication at
startup?
Maybe change it to music box or something?
Thank you.
