I haven't had a virus issue on the Mac for years but my workplace requires anti-virus software on all machines. They pre-install McAfee VirusScan for Mac. Haven't had any problems with it but it really hasn't had to do anything either.

Unfortunately, my job requires me to have antivirus and firewall software for the mac because I work for my schools information technology department. Because students don't always follow the rules, we become unintended recipients of viruses and our job is to not pass them on regardless of which operating system we're in. I use the Intego suite which includes virus barrier X5 and net barrier X5. I purchased the duel pack which gives me the bit defender software as well as the Intego suite for Mac (when I'm in my bootcamp partition).

Not really a point to using one at this time anyway, unless for whatever reason you get a lot of files you then pass on to your windows buddies and wish to scan them first. There's virtually no spyware or viruses in the wild for the Mac at present. Oh, and don't bother with Norton or McAfee either, even on Windows. They're an unbelievable joke, both of them.

You might check out ClamXav. I don't remember where I find it, but it's pretty accessible and it's free. I've tried Avast, but the Mac version sucks.

Hi everyone:

Any advice on an accessible antivirus software for the Mac? I notice both Norton and Mcafee have versions for Mac? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
