It's irritating that iTunes adds everything one open into the library.
So now it will be better.
But another VLC-related question...Can one get VLC to read the
iTunes-library in the newest "stable" version of VLC?

item chooser, or whatever method you prefer to find the open with

be set to iTunes. Whatever the selection is currently, it'll be a pop
up menu, so hit space on that and use your arrows to scroll up or down
to VLC. VO right a few times from there until you get to change all,
the OS will bring up a dialog confirming you really want to do that,
and once you confirm it you should be in business.
