I think you are underestimating the effort.
We did something comparable for Gnome ("Gnome VFS integration") and it
took several weeks to get it running with production quality though the
code was nearly completely contributed by some community developers and
we (the core developers) "only" had to integrate and test it on the
different environments.
I assume the same would be true for KDE (though it could be a little bit
faster this time if the concepts don't differ too much), but without a
code contribution from KDE developers (usually an implementation of a
"Universal Content Provide", the platfrom independent analogy inside OOo
to the "kioslaves" or "Gnome VFS providers) we wouldn't work on this by
ourselves.
