Johan, you and I grew up in different generations than did OP. At least in the US, current education is all about fluff, feel good, and PC, and it has little to do with learning actual facts or thinking skills.

On the other hand, the cite is limited in scope. It's possible that this class is exceptional and is about content primarily. A section on tools would not be out of place in such a class.

This puzzles me. I'd have thought a "professional writing class" is
about content and the tools to make the content permanent hardly
matter.
