Hello,
+++ For the English Thesaurus!
Reg Kennedy is quite correct when saying that there has been a problem
with Danish taking over from the English-GB dictionary. This dictionary
issue was not due to permissions, or a Danish localisation. At one time
it seemed to be fixed in the 1.1x series, but has cropped up again in
the OOo 2.0 betas. Before someone suggests making an official request,
this issue was reported a long time ago.
My work-around is by deleting or moving the reference to the Danish
dictionary in the dictionary.lst file, and making sure that English-GB
comes first. On a typical Linux system installation of OOo 2.0 beta,
assuming you are using the latest version (OOo 1.9.113), you can find
dictionary.lst in something like
opt/openoffice.org1.9.113/share/dict/ooo. On Windows XP, you could find
dictionary.lst somewhere like:
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 1.9.113\share\dict\ooo
It is necessary to quit OpenOffice (and any OOo quickstarter) when
changing the file dictionary.lst Of course, all of this hopefully won't
be necessary in the future.
Cheers,
Vincent Patrick
Unrelated Useful Hint
---------------------
Your hard working and helpful secretary has just showed you that the new
OpenOffice.org spreadsheet cannot add up two numbers in a formula where
the formula was copied by dragging down. She wonders whether she did
something accidentally, or whether her OpenOffice is broken.
Check that Tools > Cell Contents > AutoCalculate is ticked !
If it is not ticked, OpenOffice.org doesn't immediately calculate when
dragging down a formula.

Could we please have a Thesaurus that works in UK English? I enjoy using
Open Office but I find the lack of a UK Thesaurus quite an irritation.
A related problem is that in the Options/Writing Aids/edit modules,
Danish is selected and won't be moved!!
Hope you can solve these issues in Version 2.
Hi Reg,
The answer to your first question is on the OOo knowledgebase at
the link http://mindmeld.cybersite.com.au. Search for thesaurus and
it will provide a method of enabling a thesaurus for non-US English
installs of OpenOffice.org.
As to your second problem, I cannot see why the Danish module would
not be able to be removed except for two possibilities:
1. The dictionary is inherent to the working of the software. That is,
you are using a Danish localised version of OOo and it is attached
to the default styles.
2. Maybe a permissions problem with the dictionaries on your install.

Jonathon
