If you want to compare OOo to MSO 2003, you should limit it to the versions
released since 2003 - and/or the number of installs since 2003.

The majority of OOo installs are less that 2 years old. 2003 is OOo 1.0. That's ancient.

But you still miss the concept of *rates* of *change* and acceleration. MS Office is slowing down, OOo is speeding up. People are moving to OOo faster than they are moving to the next version of MSO. Extrapolate!

And the base argument (that started this thread) is not even about OOo but about OpenDocument. Add the uptake of StarOffice, IBM Workplace, KOffice (they'll have a Windows version next year) and Abiword.

The basic facts are:
* More people use OpenDocument today than MS XML.
* More people are *able* to use OpenDocument today than MS XML.
* People are moving to OpenDocument a lot faster than to MS XML.
* Update of OpenDocument-enabled applications is accelerating.
* Update of MS XML-enabled applications is decelerating.

You're a smart person Chad. EXTRAPOLATE!

Cheers,
Daniel.
