I've just received an enquiry from someone asking
"I am trying to do an experiment of hosting an Open Office application
on the net that my firends and I can work from. Almost like an
interactive document/IM environment that can be saved on a central
location. Is something like that possible with the Open Office Word Editor?"
That sort of question is popping up again and again.
Product liability already exists, I understand, in the land of
litigation. Everyone seems to be using email and (except me) mobile
'phones. How secure are they?
Google and M$ may be making a misstep, of course. They haven't done so
badly thus far.

People and corporations who are concerned about security will want the
software installed on their hardware.
Going by the predominant software used by individuals, it is safe to
assume that they have no concerns about security breeches. This is the
market that Google, etc are targeting their products at.
Corporations will migrate to web based applications only if they can be
reimbursed for damages caused by security breeches. Such damages can
potentially be upward of US$10^15.
