Open Office:
I love the software and have been using it since verion 1. Here are
two features I would really like to have:
1)
I really miss the 'engineering format' for scientific notation. This
forces the exponent to be a multiple of 3. Then the mantissa portion
ranges from 1 - 999. This is easier to read. It was available in
Excell way back when, but I don't have Excell any more. I also used
it on my TI-57/58/59 calculators way back when in the 70's. It is so
much more readable than straight scientific notation. For example:
1.1E5 -->> 110.0E3
1.1E4 -->> 11.0E3
1.1E3 -->> 1.1E3 (as before)
1.1E2 -->> 110.0
You can immediately translate the exponent to thousands, millions or
billions at a glance. I believe the Excell specification was active
if you had three 0's after the exponent and you left 3 zero's in
front of the decimal in the mantissa.
I.e: #000.00E#000 may have been the method in Excell to specify
the engineering notation format.
---------------
2)
Clicking on the 'add/delete decimal place' icons on the icon bar
should adjust the number of decimal places for the mantissa in
scientific notation (like in Excell).
