OpenOffice.org is really an integrated office suite. This means, that
the biggest part are the "core files", that are used by all
applications. It's not a big difference, if you only install writer or
the whole suite. So, it might be, that the installer gives you the
correct answer. 

Another question: Did you use the "user defined install" method? If
not, then try this method. This gives you the option for install only
the parts, that you need.
