I am trying very hard to switch from MS Office to OpenOffice. Calc is my
biggest hurdle, but I made the switch from Lotus to Excel, so I'm confident
I can tackle this. I'm suggesting Calc stop popping up a box when you hit
the delete key. I can't find a way to disable that. I have discovered the
Backspace key functions as I would expect the delete key to. The thing is,
hitting backspace to delete instead of delete is not just a change from
Excel to Calc. That's a change from every other piece of software I've ever
used on either Windows or Linux. I think having the key labeled "Delete"
doing the deleting and maybe having Backspace pop up a dialogue would be a
better idea. I understand the point of the dialog, but in Excel you have to
use a whole menu to do that. It's called Edit > Clear. It might be in the
right-click. The thing is, nobody expects a delete key to ask them what they
want to delete. They expect the delete key to delete. In fact, it always
annoyed me that Excel's delete key doesn't delete styles. I think delete
should = Clear all in Excel parlance. Anyways, I hope you'll at least move
the dialog box to another key.
