I suggest that before you lambast the work performed by Michael Meeks
and other such developers you have a look at:
http://go-oo.org/download/
You will find the software in Debian, Ubuntu, NeoOffice, OxygenOffice,
Gentoo, etc., etc.

BTW: what on earth does VI have to do with anything regarding OOo?
