I've recently decided to devote more of my life to writing. Especially writing about alternative software, including open source software and web services. Today I've released a new blog, and an updated version of my website. I hope you find them helpful!
*Blog: Using A Different Office* www.adriantry.com With a focus on OpenOffice.org and Google Docs, this blog will be full of thoughts and tutorials and articles about useful alternative office software. I'm aiming to write here five times a week, with at least one post a week specifically dealing with OpenOffice.org. Today's post describes how I first discovered OpenOffice.org. Tomorrow's post will explore the value of free software. Next week I will be publishing a five-part introduction to OpenOffice.org. Please let me know what you think. I'll remind you next week when Part 1 becomes available. If there is anything specific that you think would be helpful for me to cover, please let me know (here or in the blog comments). If you visit the blog, please say hello and share your thoughts in the comments. *Site: Try Another Angle* www.tryanotherangle.com This site is a slower-growing repository of reference information about free software and web services. The page about OpenOffice.org is found at http://www.tryanotherangle.org/free-and-open-software/openoffice-org This page includes helpful quick reference cards about Writer, Calc and Impress, and similar cards (by O'Reilly) about Word, Excel and Powerpoint (2003). By showing Microsoft Office users both cards, I think they will be surprised about how similar the programs are. It may encourage those resisting the change to Office 2007 to try out OpenOffice.org instead. I hope this post doesn't come across as unwanted spam. I genuinely want to help the OpenOffice.org community, and help people in general become more aware of open source software. Adrian Try www.adriantry.com www.tryanotherangle.org
