Dear Mauro:

Depending on the role, type and degree of sight disability there are work
arounds to accommodate.

I used to do this for a friend who was well into his 90s and had macular
degeneration. It took some experimenting but in the end he could
send/receive email with his native country.

Effectively, you would want to create the document in the normal way, then
save it again with a modified filename. Then modify the 2nd file as needed.

In the event that the person is to read all his stuff on his own screen,
broad adjustments can be made to the screen resolution, etc to accommodate
limited visual clarity, partial colour blindness and other situations. Each
case is highly individual.

Cheers to both of you,

Bruce Martin in Canada.

Subject: [discuss] Texting (writing) for Visual Impaired

Dear Openoffice.org developers,
One particular feature I would really like to see implemented in future
versions of OpenOffice_Writer is the possibility of writing documents with
one font typeface in web layout mode (or similar) but be able to save the
document or export it (ex. in .pdf format) with another (customizable) font
type(s), etc... according to a pre-established template for example. I know
this seems somewhat unorthodox, but if you consider people with visual
disabilities this is strongly preferable and important. I don't know up to
which extent this aspect is part of your own policies as software
developers, but I can assure you that for visual impaired persons this
feature has a very strong impact! Also, coupled with this feature, the
possibility of upon writing the document to have a blue screen background
(or another high contrast color) with written white text to increase the
contrast, even with low sized-fonts. The main idea is to be able to write a
document with a 'blueprint' type background with white text but be able at
the same time to save the document or export it with customizable settings.
Also, this feature should be file related, meaning that each setting should
be independent from file-to-file. This way, I can write a document and save
it in a blue screen mode according to my own settings to be able to continue
writing it later on, and another person be able to use the same word
processor without the need to change the "my" settings to his/her own
preferences. The preferences and settings should be independent and file
related. The idea is to write documents according to the description made
(independent of formatting for instance) and the output made customizable
according to the preferences (type of font, size of font, layout of the
document, etc.). Hope I was clear. Thank you very much for the attention.
/Mauro Claudino.
