Microsoft Office 2010 saved files are the same as Microsoft Office 2007 saved files. It is a deprecated version of the international "ISO/IEC 29500:2008" OOXML format. Deprecated versions are to be retired in favour of the full OOXML version as soon as new versions of the software program are released. Microsoft failed to do this with Office 2010 which has left the whole OOXML file format in doubt. Openoffice.org also supports OOXML deprecated formats. But saving in this deprecated format is not reccomended for fututre proofing your documents. Frankly IMHO .DOC .XLS and .PPT formats are preferable to OOXML deprecated .DOCX .XLSX and .PPTX formats on Office 2007 and 2010. ODF formats are the surest for future proofing at present but are not widely supported due to a broken implimentation by Microsoft Office. The default save format can be reset on all the above programs IIUC. > If not then when will there be an update? Updates are released every 6 months approximately. Search www.openoffice.org for "roadmap". But the feature you ask about already exists.
