Sir;

In the past I have sent an annual donation to keep open office alive. However there is a conspicuous lack of product support. Until I am able to receive an intelligent answer to the question "Please can someone tell me why the open office spell checker works intermittently?" I am no longer sending money to open office.

I have attempted several avenues of support all met with frustration as I was totally ignored or received well meaning but feckless support from amateurs.

I like your product and agree with most of the 'open source' ideals but am frustrated and disenchanted with the absence of any formal support. Open office is forcing me to fall back in using overpriced Microsoft products.

Please advise.

You should ask your question by sending an e-mail to us...@openoffice.org which is the support mailing list for technical issues. This list (discuss@openoffice.org) is for discussion about OpenOffice marketing, direction, etc. etc. Please note that the users@ list is run by *users* of OOo who volunteer time to help others; it is not a paid/professional support group. Nevertheless, you will almost certainly get good answers if you ask good questions (see below).

When/if you ask your question please give a lot more detail of what happens when spell checking fails, what language you are trying to write in, which dictionaries you have installed, which version of OOo you are using, which OS you are running and, basically, as much technical information as you can. Think about it like reporting a fault with your car over the phone: saying "it doesn't work" isn't helpful to the engineer on the other end of the phone line.
