You can do the latter with existing OVS with, e.g.:
ovs-vsctl list port eth0 | sed -n 's/^_uuid *: \(.*\)$/\1/p'
I've sent out a patch that will make it easier with future OVS:
ovs-vsctl get port eth0 _uuid
