Like language, both code production and comprehension involve different
cognitive processes, e.g., see the massive work on Broca's and Wernicke's
aphasia.

If production does not impair comprehension (all other things equal) pair
programming should work.

Subject: PPIG discuss: Pair Programming in XP

Has anyone done any work on pair programming (a la eXtremem
Programming)?

An interesting issue cropped up on the ACCU general list (we are just a
bunch of professional programmers who reflect on our work as well as do
it:-) and it might be good to have real data and information about this
issue rather than just uninformed speculation -- which if stated often
enough become fact :-)

"One thing I was wondering is how well pair programming works if the
two people involved don't write code the same way - for instance
I've noticed that I don't write code sequentially..."

So can a pair program effectively if the two individuals normally do
things differently when working individually?
