Andrew, this is the lapel mic I recommended from a previous discussion:

A couple Craigslist offerings that caught my eye with decent processor
and GPU already:

As far as mics for audience interaction, we can just buy a cheap wired
mic from Walmart and jack it directly into the mixer. Since it'll only
be used briefly, it's not a problem.

I'm only seeing one video capture card on Newegg that explicitly allows
VGA and its reviews are shitty. Maybe someone else has thoughts about
this?

Greetings Discuss list Members!
This stems from a conversation between myself (Andrew) and Dan on
the IRC Monday evening.

As many of you are aware Synhak has a Youtube channel with a growing
number educational videos on it. We would like to see this number of
videos continue to grow. We would also like for the quality of these
videos to increase. To realize this we discussed slowly piecing
together a decent suite of of A/V equipment. Particularly a 720p(or
1080p if someone has a line on a deal) capable webcam and a few
microphones for the speaker and audience questions.

The end goal we discussed for the speakers bureau is for Synhak to
have a Live Stream channel such as those offered by [4]ustream.tv or
[5]twitch.tv. These videos would be a composite of the Speaker and
their slide show if they have one. Talks would continue to be uploaded
to our Youtube channel or another suitable site for archiving.

In order to accomplish this the tentative bill of materials consist of:
HD webcam( I have one for long term loan)
2 mics for speaker and audience interaction $?(probably
            expensive)
composite HD video capture card ~$120
quad core +3GHz( some sites recommend i5's)
6GB RAM to run it all
            MoBo that matches
        Proper lighting

optional equipment
decent GPU to render videos quickly
        extra cables
more spot lights so we don't get any shadows

We've pretty much settled on using VLC as the software to bring it
all together, though I have also heard of people using FFsplit for
streaming video. The main constraints guiding our choices are that the
software be cross platform, and open source. The open source is really
the big sticking point. This is due to the large expense of video
software and in the spirit of Synhak as a corporation.

This will not be a cheap investment, nor should it be something we
rush through in order to get something 'to market' quickly. If anyone
has experience with stage work or film sets(TV) please chime in with
good lighting and mic suggestions. I know there are a few higher end
computers at the space, would it be possible to use one to captue HD
video while we piece together the 'perfect' system.

I look forward to everyone's thoughts,
Andrew
