both of those ideas are really cool. I'm not sure how into GIS(geologic
information systems) you and you members are but QGIS and GRASS are two
open source (python based i believe) GIS suites. these could be implemented
to have realtime foot traffic data or for the wifi. Be careful with wifi
mapping though, google got in a bit of trouble for recording signal
strength while collecting street view data.
