Hello everybody,

Something that I've been considering doing for some time is hosting a
GPG keysigning party at SYN/HAK in Akron. The purpose of this email is
to gauge interest in this type of event.

What's a key-signing party?

A key-signing party is a get-together with GPG/PGP users for the purpose
of meeting other GPG/PGP users and signing each other's keys. This helps
to extend the "web of trust" to a great degree. Also, it sometimes
serves as a forum to discuss strong cryptography and related issues.

Why should I use GPG/PGP?

You should use GPG/PGP, if you need (or want) to protect your personal
emails from being read by individuals or entities other than your
intended recipient(s). GPG/PGP, when used correctly, can provide message
privacy, message integrity, message authentication, and to some degree
non-repudibility.

What is GPG/PGP?

PGP is Pretty Good Privacy, a data encryption and decryption program
that provides cryptographic privacy and authentication for data
communications. ~Wikipedia
GPG is the GNU Privacy Guard, a GPL Licensed alternative to the
[commercially available] PGP suite of cryptographic software. ~Wikipedia

If you are interested in attending something like this, please let me
know. I am thinking some time in June would be an ideal time to host
the aforementioned party. If you can think of any other people or
organizations that might be interested in such an event, please forward
this email their way. Keep in mind, this is not an announcement of a
keysigning party, I am currently only gauging interesting in such an
event at this time.

Thanks,
Chris Egeland
