todo lo importante en OOo puede funcionar con Free-Java o GCJ o Kaffe.
Stallman nunca pierde oportunidad de aclarar su diferencia entre
"free software" y "open source".
El resulto es que estan trabajando junto para asegurar que el OOo se
funciona con Free-Java.
Yo uso Mepis que viene con el Blackdown de IBM que parece funciona
muy bien con el OOo113/4 y el OOo1.9.100. Han sugerido que sera
bueno si m�s gente puedo instalar el Kaffe and GCJ y comprobarlos con
OOo.
En otra correo, uno de los desarrolladores dijo, que "Our strategy
currently is that building OOo should be possible with Java 1.3 and
we avoid using sun specific classes in all Java based build
tools. Sometimes developers "forget" this, but this is fixed either by
us or by patches we get from external developers. If something happens
here, it's not bad will, it's a mistake, no big deal.
So from that side there is no reason for another OOo version, you
definitely *can* run it with "free" software only. The delicate point is
that one might consider some of the missing parts as essential parts and
usually here people start to complain."
Este refiere al compilaci�n: hay algunas funciones que no existe en
Java 1.3 pero si se compila.
A mi tambien me habian preocupado un poco, pero creo que el Free-Java
y/o el GCJ van a mantener la funcionalidad con software libre.

We are not part of the open source community. (In fact, that term is
a misnomer, since we in the free software movement built this
community, and "open source" only appeared much later.) However,

Sorry, I thought I had removed all references to Open Source in that. I
meant to say the Free Software community. I understand the difference
that you attribute to the two, and the history.
But, if something doesn't run in gcj or Kaffe, it could be seen
as
a
BUG and intered into the OOo IssueZilla system.
That approach might be able to work--if the code is tested on free
Java
frequently enough that such problems won't have time to get
entrenched.
We would need to have people not only testing the software, but
testing it
to make sure it is compliant with Free-Java.
Someone from KGC could also provide a patch for the OOo code to
make it work properly with what exists as well.
This sounds like telling us that you're likely to roll down hill, but
we're welcome to push you back up when that happens. Not a very fair
situation. I'd like the OpenOffice developers to agree they will at
least try not to roll down this hill.
Basically, what I was saying is that if we work closely enough together,
then we will never have something show up that will not work in
Kaffe/GCJ/Classpath, either for long, or at all.
The developers do not have the time to check everything that comes
through
to make sure it works on the Free Java platforms, but if someone from
the
Free Software community wants to work with us during Alpha/Beta testing,
and enter issues on things that do not work in Free-Java, then that will
help our developers police themselves as well as submissions from the
OOo
community.
I'll forward this talk to the Project Leads list for OOo, and get one of
the developers to get back with you with an "Official" statement. For
now, you have my support with this. I'll install Kaffe and GCJ on my
Gentoo box today, and use that to start testing 2.x as well.

or someone could change the page asking for volunteers for a Free
OOo,
at your earliest convenience, to asking for developers to work on
Kaffe/GCJ/ or Classpath to work better with OOo.
