If you have jrun hangs and you're using AbleCommerce make SURE you're using the latest build. The older builds had some serious SQL locking issues. If your threads are going up to the max and just hanging, it most likely means they're all waiting on 1 thread which is locked on your database.
If you're using MS SQL Svr go to the enterprise admin and look at your threads. You'll most likely see a bunch of them all waiting for this one blocking thread. If you kill that thread your server will 'unclog' itself. We had this issue last year and it took some serious work, running SQL profiler etc to find the source of the problem and have able commerce fix it. We are currently running CFMX 5.5 build 1357 and the problem has largely gone away.
